I'm a musician too, second to my job and my family (3 kids). I am 40 and found in my 20's that it was tough to give it all I could for all facets of my life. I suspect that you just don't have enough resources to go around - I.E. it's too much for you to focus on everything. I suggest a little bit of meditation or just quiet time alone (1/2 hour a day might even be enough) or something else that you find relaxing. That kind of compensation will allow your brain to keep up the pace even though you're doing more now than ever before.Losing my touch, any advice, help?
like a boxer before a fight, lose the chick!
Perhaps it's the pressure to ';perform';. When we do things out of joy and freedom we tend to get better results...but as soon as we recieve pressure from others it starts to feel like as chore.
You were motivated at the beginning because you were presented with an opportunity to put your creativity in to action, but now that you're involved in the thick of things you're experiencing what it feels like to be subjected to other people's demands.
You are NOT losing your touch it's just that your creativity is screaming out to be recognized for what it really is...a gentle passion that belongs to you. Perhaps your current sittuation isn't offering what you thought it would as everything seems to be reduced to mental work...not music. Tell everyone to RELAX, BREATH and get back to the basics instead of focusing on fame and money. Just remember what your talent is - music. Music is created not forced. Tell them you are sick of feeling as though everything is being treated as if it were an emegency when really there is no emergency. And most importantly...don't compare yourself to the rest of the band. Instead sit down together and dicuss what each should be responsible for based on everyones unique talents and strengths. This way everyone can concentrate on what it is they do best instead of being overwhelmed by a big soup of confusion.
Just remember; your talent is your own, no one can take that from you and nor can you lose it. It's part of who you are. Period.
