How can I pass all of my computer information from my old hard drive to my new hard drive? My games, my music, word documents, etc.I need professional help/advice on upgrading my computer?
get an external hard drive and transfer the files (you need to back up your data anyway right?).
If you don't have very many files, say under 10 GB, then you could use a USB Flash Drive.
You can get these computer accessories cheap at http://www.tigerdirect.com or http://www.newegg.comI need professional help/advice on upgrading my computer?
You could try networking the two computers through a router. If both of them still work, this would also give you two different computers available in different rooms for web surfing.
are they both running the same OS (xp.. or similiar) here is what i would do , remove old hard drive , and install it into the new computer, and then move all the files over to the new hard drive that you want to keep . then after you saved all the information to the new drive, you can reformatt the older drive by right clicking it , and chossing formatt, and now you have two hard drives on one computer, and can use the extra space to reuse , and move the files back to the old drive , and save stuff to that drive .. effectly giving you a back up hard drive if the new one goes out .. all the info will still be on the old drive...(once you move it back after the formatt)
Real easy install one as the master drive and one as the slave drive and your good to go.
Go to my source if you are unsure how to do so.
if the new system is XP or newer, and you can set up 2 computers on the same network, you can use a file transfer utility of XP
there is a program that I use it is called acronis trur image.
Basically you can move everything including settings and even programs from one computer to another.

true image home.
We use the enterprise server for our work.
There is another one called Symantec GHost but we found out that acronis is much better.
Acronis will work best for you because you cant move games and installed programs to new hard drive from what the people above stated.
