I need Writing advice? Please help?

I am trying to write a book(which i doubt i'll publish cause I'm still in H.S) and I need some writing tips. When writing a chapter, does every chapter need to have a plot or what? How does that work? What is the least number of chapters a book should have?I need Writing advice? Please help?
Your book will have an overarching plot, but chapters don't have a plot all to themselves. They're more like scenes or themes, or a set of actions, events, etc., that advance the plot.

There's no set chapter length or number of chapters, and in fact no requirement for chapters at all. You can put in the chapter breaks wherever you want them, pretty much. Or not put in chapter breaks at all.

When I'm writing, I don't worry about where the chapter breaks go until I've completely finished the book. Then I go back and see where they fit the best.I need Writing advice? Please help?
Write your own story as '; An Autobia of Lush Latobia '; You can write as many as chapters you want. No need of any plot just go by year wise, your achievements, failures, follies and so on.
Every chapter should be a chunk of information the reader needs to advance either the plot of the whole book or understanding of the characters. Some chapters will be short, others longer. WALKABOUT has some chapters that are less than one page long. Some novels don't have chapters at all. That is all a part of your creative process.

I think the key is knowing your characters and keeping them consistent and knowing where your story is going. Don't be afraid to toss parts of your story away and re-write. As a matter of fact, you may do a whole lot more re-writing than writing.

You may be too young to vote. You are not too young to write a novel.
WOW, you could be a writer no matter your age.

Chapters are more like paragraphs on a much larger scale. Have an outline with the various story lines...........not knowing your story, you have too tell me. Make the story advance and you will know when a new chapter is appropriate. Hmmm, maybe try a writing class, just because your question could take hours to answer, but the fact that you ask, you probably will be a good writer.
Don't doubt yourself. The author of Eragon was 15 when he started putting it on paper and nineteen when it ws published. Look how far he's come. He's on his fourth book.

I'm trying to get published even though I have a husband 3 kids and a full time job. Keep up spirits.
hey i m workin on my writing too, just try to keep ur writing the size of half of the line og page, that will look good, and write the first and the letter after the full stop{ . } in some beautiful manner or design and darken it and try to get the equal size of each letter.........ok?
First of all, good for you for writing a novel! And good luck!

Every chapter should not be self-contained plot, but should move the larger plot forward. However, that doesn't mean that each chapter doesn't have a beginning, a middle and an end.

As for your questions about a minimum number of chapters? It varies. It matters more how many pages total, or how many words total. (200-250 is a standard lowball minimum. ABout 75,000 words. Less that that and you're into ';Novella'; territory. Which is okay, it's just not a Novel, necessarily.) Inside the book, you can do whatever you want.

For example: For a 200 page novel, you can have 20 chapters of about ten pages each, 10 chapters of about 20 pages each, or you could even have only four chapters of about fifty pages each.

I would say the best thing to do at this point is know your story, know your characters, and keep writing. (Also, keep READING. This is almost as important for a writer as writing is)
If you don't know how to properly write a chapter than wanting to become an author is a dream that is very far off, but not unreachable. I would say you should not only ask this particular question but find a writing group or start your own. I currently need help on writing to so feel free to e-mail me.
Some authors don't even use chapters. Terry Pratchett, for example, just writes the book without dividing it into chapters.

Every chapter should advance the plot, but should not have a complete plot in and of itself. You're not writing a collection of short stories.

If you write an outline first, then each section of the outline could be a chapter. Divide your book as you seen fit, into logical bits.
When dividing chapters, make the book with a lot of short chapters, it's easier to divide. If the chapter is a couple pages, it's not like this huge thing to keep the topic and plot going straight. Also, if you make them short you can do all sorts of cool pov/time changes. It really depends on the book. Like in All Creature Great and Small. There were like 60 some short chapters.
