I had an early m/c on May10th and just had another 2 weeks ago. They both were the same exact @ 5 weeks. I have to wait another 2 months before trying agin. My doctor said if I had a 3rd one then he would put me on Heprin and a baby asprin b/c it could be a clotting factor, and also they would start some genetic counseling and testing. We do not have problems on either side of our families. I am 33 and am ttc#1. Has anyone been in this same situation loosing two, and gone on to have a normal pregnancy??? I need some encouragement here, my friend just told me she is pregnant and I have not told her about m/c #2 yet. I know there must be someone who had 2 m/c and then had a child, please help. Thanks.2 miscarriages back 2 back, need advice...help?
One miscarriage is tough to handle let alone two. Sorry about your sad situation. The record that I personally can remember is a woman who had 8 miscarriages followed by a healthy boy. And then her very next pregnancy was a healthy girl!
Although the textbooks say it's worth it to do an investigation after 3 losses, I usually offer my patients the option of doing some workup even after 2 losses. There are five categories of problems that could contribute to recurrent loss and you have already touched on two of them (autoimmune, genetic). At 33, you could go either way, I think. Either launch a detailed workup or just wait for the next pregnancy which by odds should have better than a 50% chance of being a live born baby! So the odds are actually still on your side. It means your next pregnancy is more likely to be a a live born than to be another miscarriage.
There is a lot of hope actually. Best of luck!2 miscarriages back 2 back, need advice...help?
I actually know a few women who have had more than one miscarriage. My husband's bosses wife was just like you - her first two pregnancies ended in miscarriage. They now have twin daughters. I know other women who had successful pregnancies, then a miscarriage, then more babies.
I know how hard dealing with one miscarriage can be (I had one in January) and I'm almost dreading getting pregnant again, because I know I'll be worried about another miscarriage. For me, though, it does help knowing that early miscarriages are pretty common, I've read anywhere from 10% to 40% of pregnancies end in an early miscarriage.
Is your doctor concerned about your progesterone levels at all? I have to take a progesterone supplement after I ovulate now, it's supposed to prevent a miscarriage if I'm pregnant. It also prevents my period from coming if I'm not pregnant, so it's a bit of a pain. My doctor also wants me to get my progesterone levels checked as soon as I find out I'm pregnant again. I have PCOS, so it might be because of that.
Good luck!
