Please help me out. Any advice you give will be extremely helpful.?

I just joined cross country. I am going into my junior year of high school and need advice and motivation. I am an extremely good basketball player and am quick as a post player. The problem is I am most definitely not in cross country shape and have been on the verge of quitting a few times. I always finish last during workouts when I even finish. I hate being last especially since I'm good at every sport and then suck at just runnnig. I die basically every day during workouts. I don't have much endurance when it comes to simple running. I am 5'9 and 160 lbs. Any help you can give and motivation is greatly appreciated. Oh and the meets are 3 miles. Thank you very much. Please help me out. Any advice you give will be extremely helpful.?
Thats not a short distance, and I'm assuming that your doing it in about 30-35 minutes, but the cross country runners already have built up their endurance, and probably have more natural endurance, so try no to compete against them, try to improve yourself. It takes a LONG time to build up endurance.

If your not running 20 minutes without a break, then you have a ways to go. Try slowing your pace down. You really , and I mean really MUST learn how to control your breathing. While you run, really concentrate on taking nice even breaths. Breath in and out so you can hear yourself. I'm not sure where your at but probably run for 5 walk for 1, run for 5 walk for 1......if this is not too difficult, then run for 10 walk for 1 run for 10 walk for 1....

Work up to a 20 minute continuous effortless run. Once you are that point, you will see your outlook will be completely different. OH yeah..you are not goin to be able to do this is a week or two. Plan on two months.

If you SMOKE, You are NOT going to be able to do this!!!Please help me out. Any advice you give will be extremely helpful.?
first off, quit cross country. basketball is your sport. work on drills to get better and to get into better shape, if you can afford to go to sports enhancement training run by sports trainers, go through one of their programs. U will be shocked by the results once you complete it
listen up, i'm a great runner. work on breathing. try taking one breath for every 4 steps then 8 then 12 you will cruise! you do it like shifting gears. i'm gettin up there but i can still run 2 miles in under 12 minutes
You are big for a cross country runner. Most are small and not tall. You have to realize that everyone is not good at all sports. You are a good basketball player which does not translate to running cross country. Remember that this training will help your endurance when you get to basketball. You will be in much better shape than the other girls. Keep up the running and it will get easier for you. No one is great at every sport, because they require different abilities and conditioning. When you go to college it is almost impossible to do 2 different sports.
i am about to try cross country as well this year. i also dont have much endurence and play basketball! well my advice to you is that you just need to build up endurence. this is done by running consitansly. it's hard to just start but you just gotta keep working at it. and what has kept me motivated is just thinking how helpful endurance will be in basketball. you will be able to run on the court for so much longer, think of what will be at the end of the finish line :)
when i was in my first year of high school and i first join the track team i had some times when i felt like quitting myself but i never allowed my self to give because i had asthma and long distances was not strong point i had this coach that to me if one of us gave up or had a time lower than 1minute he would add more miles to the workout so keep your head up and always try harder to do better every time you approach the field.
