Head southI want to bicycle from michigan to new orleans to help rebuild. Any advice/ directions/etc?
A number of bicycle rides to raise money for Katrina have been organized around the country. The link is that bicycling supports a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Although Katrina was a natural disaster, the problems were exacerbated by destructive behaviour with regard to the environment.
In theory you could organize a fifty mile cycling ride, and get 20 people to raise contributions for the charity if they complete the ride. Or you could try and raise individual contributions that will pay the charity if you do the 1000 mile ride to New Orleans. The problem is that you want the contributions to pay your food and hotel rooms then you have to get approval from the IRS. You are probably better off trying to do something in Michigan.
