Hello.
I am 20 weeks pregnant with #1. I want to have a baby shower at about 30 weeks, but I don't know what to do!! I mean, i want to keep costs down, i was planning on having it at mum's. But apart from that, i don't know!! If i invited males and females, there would be about 40 ppl. If it was just females it would be about 15 people.
And should it be a lunch or an afternoon tea? And how can i do either of those easily? Bearing in mind that my family and i are health conscious and want to serve healthful foods.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Is it rude to go to a restaurant for lunch and get people to pay for themselves? Would they still be expected to bring presents then (I know that sounds selfish and rude, but i don't mean it like that).Baby shower advice/help?
Why not just have the shower at 2:00 in the afternoon, which would be after lunch and before dinner. That way no one is really expecting a meal, but maybe a nice snack available and cake. Someone should be throwing the shower for you so that you don't have to worry about these things! Baby shower advice/help?
You should be given a baby shower by your loved ones and not have to worry about planning anything. Normally baby showers are a surprise. I had four kids and got a surprise baby shower every time. So let your loved ones figure all this out and you relax and have a fun time. Good luck.
i think afternoon tea is the best time. you can get some suggestions at http://www.easyninemonths.com/baby_showe鈥?/a>
My Mom and my DH's mom and sister threw a baby shower brunch for me, we kept it to an all female guest list to keep it small. I am not a fan of large events but that is a persnal thing. For food they made a variety of delcious and healthy muffins , fruit trays and fruit kabobs, crescent rolls and a selection of danishes and we served coffee, tea and juices. It was very sweet and enjoyed by all who attended. Breakfast food seems to be more cost effective then lunches and sweets
Tea reminds me of sweet things to accompany it, I'm sure there a variety of healthy deserts, and fruit that could accompany it, A lunch is easy to design a healthy menu for also, sandwiches, veggie trays but is also likely to be a bit more costly depending on your decisions. I would recommend doing it at home/your moms so you can personalize it and enjoy more games and what not.
ok, so the traditional would be to just invite females, the women in my family are very good cooks. If your family is like that, maybe you could ask them to bring a food. However, if your family does not have get-togethers, you may have to take a survey on tastes and allergies for the people attending. Just to make sure that there everyone has a food they like or can eat.
As for time, mid-afternoon is perfect.
If you decide to invite only females, you will need less food and are able to talk about ';girl'; stuff. Usually if you invite men and try to talk about pregnancy or feelings the men get uncomfortable.
If you invite men, you will need more food. If you cant get your family to bring food, or enough food, i would suggest a catering service. some local services may give you a advertising discount. which means, if yo help advertise... like maybe on the invitations, they can give you a small discount.
Im glad if i could help in any way.
AM
Usually a friend or close relative throws the shower for you. I'd go for an afternoon kind of thing. I don't agree with inviting males to showers, but that's just my personal opinion and the way I was raised. I come from a very traditional conservative family that does things usually by the book according to etiquette guides. Emily Post and that kind of thing. If you end up having to do it yourself (shame on your friends) I'd go for a cake and some hor 'dourves. If you wanted to go out, I would not expect others to pay for it, so something at home would be nicer if you are short on cash. Usually people play small shower games with little favors as prizes. Congrats.
First of all,it probably be best to do it at your home.Costs are a big issue but many stores have low prices for items. You might not want to invite males but nothing is wrong with that if you do. The baby shower should be in the afternoon around 1 or 2 o'clock.
Different stores include:
Big lots
Big 99 cent store
Walgreen's
Walmart
You should have at least a couple games. Maybe like 4,or 5.
Theres a few cool games, and here are a couple websites that include games:
www.babyshower101.com
www.babyshowercentral.com
www.baby-shower.com
The food items can be quite tough to handle but you could do these:
Pick up maybe some Fruit/veggie trays
Get some pretzels
You could pick up some Turkey, bread and things to make sandwiches
Some cheese, crackers and little meat cubes
Prizes for the games:
Just look around in the stores I listed
What is a popular thing is to do is to have family members help put it together. Or you can just do it yourself.
Well if you want you can ask anymore questions, and Good Luck!
Oh and Congratalations
